Benjamin Villagi

Psychologist (PhD/PsyD)

Benjamin obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Montreal. He then completed his doctoral studies at the University of Quebec in Montreal. During his clinical training, he had the opportunity to develop his skills with people presenting various problems. He also received specialized training in the treatment of personality disorders at the University Institute of Mental Health in Montreal. He has offered therapy to adults in the private clinic setting since 2019 when he completed his clinical training.

Benjamin bases his interventions mainly on the humanist approach while drawing inspiration from other approaches, notably Gestalt object relations psychotherapy (PGRO), therapy based on mentalization and polyvagal theory. In collaboration with Benjamin, the person is actively involved in identifying, understanding and modifying behaviors that prevent them from adequately meeting their needs and that reproduce themselves through different relational contexts, current and past. In order to help the person better understand their problematic behaviors and adopt behaviors more suited to their needs, Benjamin pays particular attention to the relationships between the person's internal states (emotions, needs, perceptions, etc.) and their behaviors.

Through this process, Benjamin wants to give people back the possibility of expressing themselves freely, particularly in their social relationships. Benjamin also strives to offer a flexible framework that adapts to the needs of each person.
